Spravato®
Crawford County Mental Health Center is proud to offer SPRAVATO® (esketamine) in Pittsburg, Kansas — a breakthrough treatment for adults with treatment-resistant depression. Approved by the FDA and administered in our REMS-Certified SPRAVATO Treatment Center, SPRAVATO is designed for individuals who haven’t found relief with traditional antidepressants. This nasal spray treatment works differently than other medications and may provide rapid improvement in symptoms for some patients. If depression has persisted despite trying multiple medications, SPRAVATO could be the next step toward healing.
What is SPRAVATO?
SPRAVATO is a type of medication known as an NMDA receptor antagonist. It works differently from traditional antidepressants by targeting a brain pathway involving glutamate, a key chemical that helps regulate mood. By blocking NMDA receptors, esketamine (the active ingredient in Spravato) helps promote the formation of new neural connections and supports the brain’s ability to adapt — known as neural plasticity — which may improve symptoms of depression. It was approved for use by the FDA in 2019.
Is SPRAVATO Right For You?
- If you have tried or are currently taking two or more anti-depressants you may have Treatment Resistant Depression
- You’ve tried many options over the years and can’t seem to find relief from your depression and have been diagnosed with Major Depressive Disorder
- You have suicidal ideation
Clinical studies have demonstrated that adults with major depressive disorder and active suicidal thoughts experienced a more significant reduction in depressive symptoms when treated with SPRAVATO (esketamine) nasal spray in conjunction with an oral antidepressant, compared to those receiving a placebo plus an oral antidepressant.
SPRAVATO is available only at REMS-Certified treatment centers and must be administered under the direct supervision of a qualified healthcare provider to ensure safe and appropriate use. Pre-approval is required prior to treatment.
