Substance use disorder treatment

Crawford County Mental Health Center offers both residential and outpatient services for those needing Substance Use Disorder Treatment. The residential facilities offer Intermediate Treatment, Social Detox, and Reintegration for residents statewide. Additionally, once individuals have left the residential facilities, Intensive Outpatient and Outpatient services for clients in the local area or for those that wish to continue in services via telehealth. We believe that treatment and recovery occur in a non-linear fashion. Thus, an individual may enter services at any level. Assessments and referrals for all levels of care are conducted through Same Day Access.

Social Detox

Typically, Social Detox is short-term and providers supervision, observation, and support for individuals who are experiencing withdrawal symptoms from substance use. This allows for the safe and effective treatment of substance use withdrawal symptoms within a facility that can easily transition the client into the next suitable modality of treatment, which is often intermediate.

Our providers strive to work with local medical providers to identify higher risk clients that would most likely benefit from medications, as we believe that one of the main reasons for relapse is an effort to avoid withdrawal. By eliminating this, or at least significantly reducing withdrawal symptoms, the likelihood of completing detox and transitioning to the next level of care increases.

Crawford County Mental Health Center is proud to offer Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT) to help individuals in their road to recovery. For more information on our MAT Program, please click here.

Intermediate Treatment - Addiction Treatment Center

Intermediate services allow clients to continue to receive treatment at our 24-hour residential facility, known as the Addiction Treatment Center, for up to twenty-eight (28) additional days. Here they receive structure, counseling, and classes to equip them with foundational tools to begin recovery post completion, and are given connections to community resources that are intended to support the recovery process.

Women who are unable to acquire the tools or resources necessary to safely transition to the community after treatment are offered Reintegration services as an option at the Women’s Renewal House. For more information please click on the Women’s Renewal House tab below.

Our staff work to ensure that clients have the basic necessities after moving from the Addiction Treatment Center back into the community. If they are unable to accomplish this, Crawford County Mental Health Center has interim at Oak Place dedicated to the SUD population, where clients can stay an additional ninety (90) days while outpatient staff continue to work on addressing the needs necessary to ensure a smooth transition for the client.

Interim housing is also utilized to assist the Addiction Treatment Center in operating from a triage model, allowing the facility to transition clients that are nearing the end of their treatment into interim housing to open bed space at the residential program when necessary. This is done to ensure that the ability to expedite the admission of high-risk populations and to reduce overall wait times. Our staff have found that transparency with the clients upon admission about this process also serves to motivate them to engage in the recovery process from the beginning of treatment, thus reducing the average length of stay required to accomplish the established goals.

New Addiction Treatment Center Coming Fall 2024

With an anticipated opening in August, the new Addiction Treatment Center being built in Pittsburg, Kansas, will contain twenty-four (24) Residential and Intermediate A&D beds, four Social Detox beds, and an additional seven bed Crisis Stabilization Unit for short-term, community-based supportive care and treatment for individuals in psychiatric or psychosocial crisis who may be at risk of hospitalizations.

This new consolidated campus will allow the Substance Use Disorder Treatment team to engage in each level of care, providing the opportunity for individuals to maintain continuity of care with the same clinician(s) for the entire duration of their treatment, if desired. This will also increase the number of clinicians and peers available for outpatient groups.

We are eagerly awaiting the completion of construction. Stay tuned for more updates!
