Adult services

Crawford County Mental Health Center offers a full range of individualized Adult Services to assist clients in overcoming symptoms of anxiety, depression, trauma, and a wide variety of mental health challenges that impact daily living. Outpatient services are designed to provide evidence-based treatment and assistance and are customized to the level of care needed for optimal outcomes.

Individual Therapy

Individual therapy is a one-on-one collaboration between a licensed therapist and a client, which is used to explore challenges and negative thought patterns or behaviors, with the ultimate goal of identifying paths to improved functioning, the development of healthy thoughts and behaviors, and the identification of strategies to manage symptoms to support a healthy life.

Our therapists are trained in a variety of evidenced based practices and will work with you to determine which treatment approach is best suited to meet your individual needs.

Some of the treatment modalities we offer include:

  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)

  • Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART)

  • Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT)
  • Motivational Interviewing (MI)
  • Trauma Specific Treatment approaches
Adult Community Support Services

Community Support Services (CSS) are designed to assist adults with severe and persistent mental illness (SPMI) with the goal of empowerment and stability for optimal functioning within the community.

Case management services, an integral part of Community Support Services, are medically indicated services to link clients with resources and supports. Services are client driven and customized to each individual. These services are intended to be convenient for clients and can support them in their home, community, or workplace.

Peer Support Services

Peer Support Services is a recovery focused program for clients living with psychiatric symptoms, including symptoms caused by substance abuse or misuse.

Clients are matched with trained and Certified Peer Support Specialists, who are individuals that have lived experience with mental illness and/or substance abuse and have demonstrated that recovery is possible. They are trained as assistants in recovery, certified by the State of Kansas, and follow a code of ethics that guides their work. A Peer Support Specialist acts as an advocate and as an educator.

Assertive Community Treatment (ACT)

Assertive Community Treatment (ACT) is an evidence-based program that offers a complete range of treatment and support services for individuals that have been diagnosed with a serious mental illness and require a higher level of care.

ACT is a collaborative effort that involves a transdisciplinary team, which includes a housing specialist, employment specialist, nurse practitioner, nurse, therapist, case manager, peer support specialist, and substance use disorder counselor. This team provides clients with the necessary support in their home and community, ultimately improving their quality of life while also reducing the likelihood of hospitalizations, homelessness, and incarcerations. Over 50 years of research shows that individuals who receive services from ACT programs experience fewer hospitalizations, longer periods of stable housing, and improved satisfaction with services.

Clients must be referred to the program and determined as eligible to participate in ACT services.

Individual Placement and Support (IPS)

Individual Placement and Support (IPS) is an evidence-based approach to establish integrated supported employment to individuals with mental illness or co-occurring disorders.

The purpose of the IPS program is to find employment for individuals who self-identify as having a desire to work. All adults, aged 18 and older, will be accepted into the program regardless of severity or progression of symptoms and management of such.

8 Principles of IPS:

  1. Competitive Employment
  2. Systematic Job Development
  3. Rapid Job Search
  4. Integrated Services
  5. Benefits Planning
  6. Zero Exclusion
  7. Time-Unlimited Supports
  8. Worker Preferences

Work is considered by many as an important part of mental health recovery. Over two-thirds of individuals with a serious mental illness want to work, but only 15% are actually employed. Competitive employment has a positive impact on self-esteem, life satisfaction, reducing symptoms, and is a cost-effective alternative to day treatment.

Psychological Testing

Psychological testing is a service that is provided to help identify symptoms, diagnoses, and treatment recommendations for individuals. Psychological testing uses different assessments depending on the referral question to look at cognitive abilities, personality patterns, behavioral concerns, and overall functioning. For adults, common evaluations include ADHD evaluations, cognitive evaluations, personality testing, and memory assessments.

For current Crawford County Mental Health Center clients, referrals should be made by your treatment provider. If you are not currently a client and wish to receive psychological testing, please download our External Referral Form and have it completed by your provider or referring agency.

Please be advised that there may be a several month wait time from the referral to the day of testing due to client demand. If you have any questions, please contact [email protected].
