Pittsburg, KS – Crawford County Mental Health Center (CCMHC) is proud to announce an expansion of its Same Day Access services to better serve the Spanish-speaking community in Crawford County and the surrounding areas. Beginning on Wednesday, March 12, 2025, individuals seeking mental health services can now access in-person intake assessments with a Spanish-speaking provider, ensuring that language is not a barrier to receiving essential care.
Spanish-speaking services will be available by bilingual staff on the 1st and 2nd Wednesday of each month from 9:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. at the Same Day Access walk-in clinic. Upcoming dates include March 12, April 2, and April 9. Outside of these dates, CCMHC will utilize the services of an interpretive company, LUNA, to assist with language support during intake sessions.
This initiative is made possible through the dedication of our bilingual staff, including a Qualified Mental Health Professional (QMHP) and a Patient Navigator, who will provide direct services in Spanish. Intake materials, including financial assistance and admission packets, have also been fully translated to support Spanish-speaking clients through the intake process. The expansion of these services cis a response to community need, as CCMHC has seen a 31% increase in Hispanic clients in 2024 alone. Recognizing the growing need for cultural and linguistically accessible care, CCMHC remains committed to removing barriers and providing inclusive access to mental health support. Additionally, CCMHC does not deny services to anyone based on language, residence, or inability to pay.
“Our mental health center understands most of us want to have health care provided by someone who speaks the same language. The use of interpreters is one option but the session can take longer and does not feel private. Additionally, we lose cultural understanding in some circumstances,” stated Amy Glines, Deputy Director at CCMHC. “Emotions can be difficult to express let alone when we try to do so in a new language. We are very excited to offer this service to the region and anticipate the demand to grow quickly. I encourage any community partners interested in collaborations or referrals to contact me by calling 620-231-5130.”
Launched in March of 2023, Same Day Access allows individuals to walk in for initial assessments, screenings, and referrals without the need for a prior appointment. This decreases the wait time to access crucial mental health and substance use treatment services and removes the need to reschedule initial appointments due to unforeseen circumstances. Same Day Access is located at 3103 North Michigan Street in Pittsburg, Kansas, and operates Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. For details about Same Day Access, including what to expect, what to bring, helpful tips, and to complete intake
paperwork in advance, please visit our website at: https://crawfordmentalhealth.org/sameday-access/. CCMHC accepts Medicaid, Medicare, and most insurance plans, and offers a sliding fee scale for individuals with limited financial resources. No one is turned away due to an inability to pay.
