Pittsburg, Kansas — Crawford County Mental Health Center (CCMHC) welcomed John Barrows as their new Chief Financial Officer in September, 2023.

Barrows graduated with his Bachelor of Business Administration from Pittsburg State University in 2019. A year later in 2020, he achieved his Master of Business Administration from Pittsburg State University. During his time at the University, he was an active member of Beta Gamma Sigma, an honor society for business students. Barrows was also a member of the Honors College at Pittsburg State University.

In addition to his educational expertise, Barrows brings years of financial experience to CCMHC, including working as a Revenue Analyst and Revenue Accounting Billing Manager for Watco over the past six years. Throughout his tenure at Watco, Barrows expanded his knowledge of financial systems while developing financial reports and models, assisting with cost analysis, fiscal allocation, and budget preparation, as well as preparing a plethora of other financial statements. Additionally, he managed and led multiple teams in order to ensure compliance for a multi-million dollar grant project.

“We are very excited to have John join our team. John brings financial expertise that will be an asset to our agency as he leads the transformation to a successful CCBHC model of operation. This will help us expand services, add more providers, and better serve the mental health needs of our community,” stated Heather Spaur, Executive Director.

In this new role, Barrows will be responsible for managing and directing the overall financial policies for CCMHC. That includes healthcare billing, budgeting, purchasing, statistical and financial reporting, accounts payable and accounts receivable. Barrows will also play an integral role in spotting financial trends to set the course for the future direction of the agency and actively participate in the development and monitoring of the agency’s strategic direction.

“I am excited to bring the educational knowledge and professional experience that I have to CCMHC. There are many opportunities for the agency to expand services with the transition to a Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinic (CCBHC), and I am eager to ensure we are expanding those services in a sustainable and efficient way,” stated Barrows.

He continued saying, “CCMHC does so many great things in Crawford County. There are countless people in the area that are impacted by the services this agency provides, so I cannot overstate how excited I am to have the opportunity to make a positive impact within the community.”
