Pittsburg, Kansas — Crawford County Mental Health Center (CCMHC) is excited to announce the launch of Mobile Same Day Access to better serve the residents of Crawford County and the surrounding area.

In collaboration with the Crawford County Health Department, CCMHC will use an RV to take Mobile Same Day Access to different areas in Crawford County, with the goal of reducing barriers and increasing access to mental health and substance use services for individuals who may be unable to access Same Day Access in its physical Pittsburg location.

“I am excited for Same Day Access to be out in the community. This initiative will allow us to reach individuals who may otherwise not be able to get the help they need due to their location in the county, transportation issues, or other contributing factors,” said Jason Southard, Director of Same Day Access and Housing. “We’re removing barriers and increasing access to care to better serve those around us. That’s what it’s all about.”

Starting on February 23, 2024, Mobile Same Day Access will be available the last Friday of each month from 9:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. in front of the Crawford County Courthouse. It will also be available the first Friday of each month from 9:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. in the Northeast High School parking lot.

Mobile Same Day Access will offer readily available mental health and substance use intakes, screenings, and referrals for new patients. Additionally, psychoeducation regarding services can be supplied. No appointment is needed to be seen, and walk-ins are welcome. Services at the RV will be provided on a first come, first serve basis.

Qualified mental health professionals will staff the Mobile Same Day Access RV, ensuring correct triage of mental health and substance use needs.

Individuals visiting Mobile Same Day Access are encouraged to bring their insurance card (if applicable), state ID or driver’s license, medication lists, and relevant past medical records. If applying for financial assistance, individuals are encouraged to bring proof of income. Minors must be accompanied by a legal guardian to be seen.

“With Federal and State CCBHC Certification, an increase in access is described as ‘stepping outside of the clinic four walls’. Utilizing Mobile Same Day Access allows our agency to remove barriers for individuals seeking mental health treatment by serving them in their communities. We are very excited to expand our services and we appreciate the support and collaboration with community partners to bring these services to additional areas of our community,” said Heather Spaur, Executive Director.

The Mobile Same Day Access RV will be available for public viewing at the upcoming Tuesday, February 6, 2024, Crawford County Commissioner’s meeting at the Crawford County Courthouse, located in Girard, Kansas, from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. Refreshments, as well as information over Mobile Same Day Access and CCMHC services, will be provided.
